BLACK HISTORY MONTH ESSAY
MOLD-EN OUR YOUTH FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE, INC is hosting their annual Black History Month Essay contest. The
last day documents and the essay will be accepted is Friday February 28, 2025/11:59 P.M. The contest is open to high school
student’s grades, 9th-12th grade in the United States of America.
Highlighting the Significance of the March on Washington “A Turning Point in Civil Rights” Students are invited to
participate in an essay contest focusing on the March on Washington. Essay entries must be compelling and discuss the key
outcomes of the march including the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Discuss how the March
served to unite people of different races, backgrounds and social classes in pursuit of a common goal.

1. Entries must be received no later than February 28, 2025/11:59 P.M.
2. Entries must be a word document using 12-point or Arial or Times New Roman font, double spaced.
3. Each entry must contain 750-1,000 words.
4. Complete entries consist of the following:
a. Essay-Student’s name should be in the top right corner of the first page
b. Identification– Proof of current grade/ a copy of student’s ID or progress report.
c. Student Entry Form signed by student and parent
5. Essays must be the original work of the student. Plagiarism will not be tolerated, to include essays from Artificial Intelligence
essay submissions.
6. An automatic reply will state if the maximum number of essays (75) has been reached.
7. Cash prizes: First Place: $500.00 Second Place: $300.00 Third Place: $200.00
8. Prize checks will be sent via first class mail. Essay contest winners will be notified via email, text message or telephonically.

I am Black History: PIONEER Essay Contest

Annual “I Am Black History” Pioneer Essay Contest. The last day documents and the essay will
be accepted is Friday February 28, 2025/11:59 P.M. The contest is open to high school student’s
grades, 9th-12th grade in the United States of America.
Highlighting the Contributions of Lewis Howard Latimer: Students are invited to participate in
an essay contest focusing on Lewis Howard Latimer, an African American Pioneer who played a
crucial role in American History. The essay should focus on his contributions to science and
engineering, detailing his key inventions, such as the carbon filament for the incandescent light
bulb and his work on the telephone. Explain how these inventions impact our lives daily and
contributed to technological advancements. Describe how his determination and commitment to
education helped him overcome these obstacles particularly regarding racial discrimination and
the challenges faced by African Americans during his time.
